Gli Olandesi Thanatos sono una delle prime band Death Metal. Si formarono nel 1984 per mano di Stephan Gebedi (voce-chitarra) , Theo van Eekelen (basso) , Aad Kloosterward (batteria) . Nel 1990 firmarono un contratto con l'etichetta Shark , pubblicando due dischi: "Emerging From The Netherworlds" (1990) e "Realm of Ecstacy" (1992) , ripubblicati in seguito dall'Hammerheart , per la quale nel 2000,pubblicarono l'ultimo disco "Angelic Encounters"
