Basé à Portland (Oregon), Chromatics est d'abord un quatuor avant de se muer en trio. Le groupe pratique un rock alternatif très proche de l'electro rock, genre par ailleurs pratiqué par Johnny Jewel dansGlass Candy, son autre groupe. Chromatics sort les albums Chrome Rats vs. Basement Rutz (2003), Plaster Hounds (2004) et Night Drive (2007) en s'évertuant à sonner comme des Comateens actuels. Chromatics se forme en 2002 à Portland (Oregon).
