Shabazz Palaces es un dúo de hip-hop abstracto con sede en Seattle , dirigido por Ismael Butler, también conocido como 'Palaceer Lazaro', quien formó parte del influyente grupo Digable Planets utilizando el seudónimo Butterfly. Como escudero, ocupándose de la parte instrumental, está Tendai 'Baba' Maraire. El proyectó inició su actividad editorial con dos EPs auto editados: Uno homónimo y otro titulado "Of Light". En sus primeros pasos, Shabazz Palaces omiiteron cualquier acreditación y hacerse fotos promocionales.
