The Revolution is an American R&B and pop rock band formed in Minneapolis, Minnesota, in 1979 by Prince. Initially serving as Prince's backing band for live performances, the group later became an important studio ensemble. Its music combined elements of rock, funk, R&B, new wave, synth-pop, and psychedelia, and contributed significantly to the development of the Minneapolis sound. The band remained active with Prince until its dissolution in 1986 and reunited for performances following his death in 2016.
