A pioneering Funk crew, Fatback released an impressive nineteen albums between '72 and '89. Originally known simply as Fatback Band, they shortened their name to Fatback in 1977. Fatback's 1979 single "King III (Personality Jock)" predates Sugarhill's "Rapper's Delight" as the first rap record recorded. Fatback was started by drummer Bill Curtis and trumpet player Gerry Thomas. Their hit singles include "Spanish Hustle," "I Like Girls," "Backstrokin'," and "Got To Get My Hands On Some
